SUMMARY:COALITION SPEAKER SERIES: Dr Andrew Newberg\, "The Jewish Brain"
DESCRIPTION:&nbsp\;\n\nDr. Newberg will review the latest information from 
 the field of neurotheology that explores the link between religion and the
  brain as it pertains specifically to Judaism.&nbsp\; This talk will prese
 nt cutting edge results from our brain scan studies of meditation and pray
 er\, as well as a survey of Rabbi’s religious and spiritual beliefs.&nbs
 p\; This talk will highlight how Jewish thought\, beliefs and practices in
 tersect with the human brain.&nbsp\;\n\nDr. Newberg has been particularly 
 involved in the study of mystical and religious experiences… a field ref
 erred to as “neurotheology”.&nbsp\; He has also studied the more gener
 al mind body relationship and other types of alternative therapies.&nbsp\;
  He has actively pursued a number of neuroimaging research projects which 
 have included the study of aging and dementia as well as other neurologica
 l and psychiatric disorders. He has published over 250 peer reviewed artic
 les and chapters on brain function\, brain imaging and the study of religi
 ous and mystical experiences.&nbsp\; He was given the Teacher of the Year 
 Award twice as part of the faculty of the Biological Basis of Behavior Pro
 gram at the University of Pennsylvania.\n\nDr. Newberg is currently the Re
 search Director at the Marcus Institute of Integrative Health at Thomas Je
 fferson University and Hospital in Philadelphia.&nbsp\; He is a Professor 
 in the Department of Integrative Medicine and Nutritional Sciences\, with 
 a secondary appointment in the Department of Radiology at Thomas Jefferson
  University.&nbsp\; He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Nuclear
  Medicine.&nbsp\; He has published 12 books which have been translated int
 o 17 different languages.&nbsp\; He was listed as one of the 30 Most Influ
 ential Neuroscientists Alive Today by the Online Psychology Degree Guide.&
