 ans has been on the faculty at Amherst College\, where\nhe is the Lewis-Se
 bring Professor of Humanities\, Latin American and Latino\nCulture.&nbsp\;
 He is a Mexican-born Jewish American writer and academic.&nbsp\;He writes 
 and\nspeaks on American\, Hispanic and Jewish Cultures.&nbsp\; He earned a
  master’s degree\nfrom the Jewish Theological Seminary and a PhD from Co
 lumbia\nUniversity.\n\nBest known for his investigation of language and cu
 lture\, his books include How Yiddish Changed America and How America Chan
 ged Yiddish\, On Borrowed Words\, Spanglish\, Dictionary Days\, The Disapp
 earance\, and A Critic’s Journey. He has edited The Norton Anthology of 
 Latino Literature\, the three-volume set Isaac Bashevis Singer: Collected 
 Stories\, The Poetry of Pablo Neruda\, among dozens of other volumes. He h
 as been awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship and received wide international ac
