  Israel&amp\;#39\;s Negev Desert.&nbsp\;\n\nLihi Bin Shitrit is the Henry 
 Taub Associate Professor of Israel\nStudies at the Skirball Department of 
 Hebrew and Judaic Studies\nand the director of the Taub Center for Israel 
 Studies.\nHer research focuses on the intersections of gender\, religion\,
  and\npolitics in the Middle East.&nbsp\; She is the author of “Righteou
