SUMMARY:Coalition SPEAKER SERIES: Robin Washington on "The Myth of Jewish H
 omogeneity"
DESCRIPTION:Our speaker\, Robin Washington\, the editor-at-large of "The Fo
rward\," says that during the last 2 years he has seen an overwhelming inc
rease in the number of Jews who display some sort of intersectionality bet
ween different sub-groups.\n\nExamples include Conservative Jews who also
actively identify as Hebrew Israelites\, European Lubavitchers from Hispan
ic backgrounds and interfaith and interracial families of every stripe. Re
cognizing this offers us a truer picture of ourselves\, and also a way to
constructively counter the monolithic stereotypes through which the rest o
f the world views Jews.\n\nRobin grew up in a Chicago family of Black and
Jewish civil rights activists. He has gone on to chronicle the movement in
his acclaimed PBS documentary\, "You Don't Have to Ride Jim Crow!" And\,
in 1995 he co-founded the Alliance of Black Jews.\n\nRobin's commentaries
have appeared in newspapers around the world\, as well as in books edited
by Ishmael Reed\, Charles Ogletree and Willard Jenkins. He is host of "Sim
ply Superior" on Wisconsin Public Radio and was a Fellow in Science Broadc
ast Journalism at WGBH Boston. He has also appeared on NPR\, BET\, MSNBC\,
CNN\, Fox News and various other national media.\n\nJoin us!\n\nWith grat
itude to Gloria and Marty Greenstein and the Rene Bloch Foundation.\n\n[gr
