DESCRIPTION:Professor Stephen Whitfield is a professor emeritus of American
  Civilization at Brandeis University. His expertise and interest is the in
 tersection of politics and ideas in 20th century America\, with a focus on
  Jewish history.&nbsp\;Professor Whitfield will trace the movement of the 
 Jewish vote between the Democratic and Republican parties. He will discuss
  what makes the Jewish vote so singular\, the persistence of Jewish libera
 lism\, the impact of FDR on the Jewish vote and how Israel influences the 
 pattern of Jewish voting.\n\nProfessor Whitfield was awarded two Fulbright
  professorships and taught in Belgium\, Israel\, France and Germany. &nbsp
 \;In 2004\, he became the first Allianz Visiting Professor at the Ludwig-M
 aximilian University of Munich to offer courses in American Jewish studies
 . &nbsp\;He has written numerous books and received awards for his outstan
