SUMMARY:JEWISH FEDERATION of WESTERN CT.\, ALBERT HABONIM AWARDS
DESCRIPTION:JEWISH FEDERATION OF WESTERN CT. will be running their Annual C
ampaign Kickoff Breakfast and presenting their annual Sylvia &amp\; Burton
ALBERT HABONIM Awards.\n\nThey are pleased and we are proud to announce t
hat long-time Coalition member\, pioneering community leader and activist
Carolyn Setlow will be honored.\n\nFollowing is a description of the &nbsp
\;committee and some of the efforts Carrie spearheaded\, on behalf of the
Coalition and our local interfaith community\, in recent years:\n\nThe Gre
ater Washington Coalition for Jewish Life has a long tradition of particip
ating in local interfaith programs and\, in many cases\, initiating those
programs.&nbsp\; We value them for many reasons. They offer us opportuniti
es to increase each others’ knowledge of and respect for the beliefs and
traditions of all faiths practiced in our community\, and to identify sha
red community needs.\n\nOver the years\, we have collaborated with clergy
and lay members of several local churches.&nbsp\; These programs have incl
uded interfaith Thanksgiving services\; panel discussions among Jewish\, C
hristian and Islam clergy and others.\n\nIn recent years\, the activities
of the Coalition’s “Community Social Action Committee” have broadene
d in response to a local call for action.&nbsp\; In May\, the Coalition an
d its CSAC was invited to join the newly-formed “Washington Council on C
ongregations” in the town of Washington.&nbsp\; Together\, seven religio
us organizations gathered\, seeking to serve their neighbors through a var
iety of collaborative efforts and to address the shared issues and growing
needs of our challenging times.&nbsp\; In little time\, WCOC was up and r
unning with a series of successful food drives and a blood collection\, ra
ising much-needed funds and resources and engaging many members of the com
munity with their timely initiative.\n\nAlan Rosenstock\, President of Tom
che Shabbos of Rockland County\, a nonprofit group providing a multi-facet
ed approach to addressing hunger and poverty\, will be the program's guest
speaker.\n\nAll are encouraged to attend and support the event\, kindly R
 SVP by September 7.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nwww.jfed.net\n\ncconti@jfed.net\n\nCathy
