DESCRIPTION:Over the course of American history\, there have been strains o
 f pessimism and optimism about race.\n\n&nbsp\;This talk will focus on rec
 ent controversies involving portrayals of the American past... for example
  -- the 1619 Project and predictions regarding the American future. Anothe
 r\, the view of some Critical Race theorists that America is irredeemable.
 \n\nRandall Kennedy is the Michael R. Klein Professor at Harvard Law Schoo
 l where he teaches courses on criminal law and the regulation of race rela
 tions. &nbsp\;For his education he attended St. Albans School\, Princeton 
 University\, Oxford University and Yale Law School. &nbsp\;He served as a 
 law clerk for Judge J. Skelly Wright of the United States Court of Appeals
  and for Justice Thurgood Marshall of the U.S. Supreme Court. He is a memb
 er of the bar of the District of Columbia and the Supreme Court of the U.S
 . &nbsp\;Awarded the 1998 Robert F. Kennedy Book Award for Race\, Crime an
 d the Law\, Mr Kennedy writes for a wide range of scholarly and general in
 terest publications and has numerous other books to his credit.\n\nJoin us
