The presence of anti-Semitism and extremist groups throughout history continues to the present day and is of increasing concern. Our speaker and her subject are timely.
Ruth Ben-Ghiat is a historian and commentator on fascism, authoritarian leaders, and propaganda — and the threats these present to democracies. An MSNBC Opinion Columnist and author or editor of six books, with over 100 op-eds and essays in CNN, The New Yorker, and The Washington Post, she brings historical perspective to her analyses of current events. Her insight into the authoritarian playbook has made her an expert source for television, radio, podcasts, and online events around the globe.
Currently a Professor of History and Italian Studies at New York University, the recipient of Guggenheim, Fulbright, and other fellowships, and Advisor to Protect Democracy, Ruth Ben Ghiat is also an MSNBC columnist and a regular contributor to CNN, The Washington Post and other media outlets.
Her recent book, “Strongmen: Mussolini to the Present” offers a historical perspective and study of world leaders and how they have used propaganda, corruption, violence, and machismo to gain strength and influence and effect change in recent decades.
