Greater Washington Coalition for Jewish Life

Coalition Speaker Series, “Gun Safety in the World We Live In,” Nicholas Suplina (CANCEL’D, to be rescheduled)

When

December 3, 2023
10:00 am - 11:30 am

Everytown for Gun Safety is the largest organization in the country working to prevent gun violence.  The original goal was simple:  build a counterweight to the gun lobby, powered by a grassroots army that was just as loud and passionate as the NRA.

Ten years later, Everytown and their network of Moms and Students Demand Action volunteers has ten million supporters.  This growth has allowed them to change the political calculus on gun safety and pass common-sense laws at all levels of government.  But there is still a lot of work to be done:  they are focused on building a grassroots movement of volunteers, electing gun sense champions to offices up and down the ballot, additional opportunities for progress in D.C. and statehouses across the country, and holding the gun industry and gun lobby accountable through litigation and investigations.

Nick Suplina brings 20 years of legal and policy experience in the public and private sectors.  In this role, he oversees the organizational strategy for federal, state, and local policy, community safety initiatives, research and investigations.  He regularly advises and has served on the transition teams of Governors, Attorneys Generals, Mayors and District Attorneys.

Before joining Everytown, Nick served as Senior Advisor and Special Counsel to the New York State Attorney General, where he formulated legal strategies in the areas of criminal justice, public safety, technology, and government integrity. Nick has appeared on national tv news outlets and has been quoted in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, USA Today and others.  He graduated from the George Washington University Law School and received his BA from Wesleyan University. Join us!

With gratitude to our generous sponsors Gloria and Martin Greenstein and the Rene Bloch Foundation.
