GWCJL Speaker Series, “Five Jewish Writers Who Changed the World,” Joseph Luzzi

When

August 21, 2022
10:00 am - 11:30 am

What five Jewish authors are a must for every lover of literature? And how did all of these writers, in their own unique way, “change the world?”

We will explore this questions with participants in a presentation devoted to exploring the riches of the Jewish literary tradition worldwide, as we discuss authors including Franz Kafka, Sigmund Freud, Primo Levi, Hannah Arendt, Philip Roth and more!

Professor Luzzi will show how these great authors help us understand some of the most pressing concerns today, such as the nature of religious faith, questions of personal identity, even the quest for the “American Dream.”

Joseph Luzzi, who received his PhD at Yale, is currently a literature professor at Bard College. Previously, he was a visiting professor at the University of Pennsylvania, where he received the Scaglione Prize for his teaching. He is also the author of the audio course, “The Art of Reading.” He is the author of five books and his writings have appeared in the New York Times, The London Times, the Chronicle of Higher Education, among others.
